At Milipol Paris 2025, held from 18 to 21 November at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre, BMW Motorrad showcased recent advances in authority mobility, led by the debut of the new R 1300 RT-P. The brand outlined improvements in rider comfort, operational efficiency and safety features developed to meet the evolving needs of modern police forces.

Across Europe and beyond, police forces continue to rely on motorcycles for their unique combination of agility, visibility and rapid response capability. Studies from the European Traffic Police Network show that motorcycles can reduce response times in dense urban areas by navigating congestion more effectively than patrol cars. They also provide superior field visibility during escort duties and incident management, where swift manoeuvrability is paramount. In major cities, motorcycles remain particularly valuable for first responders, enabling officers to reach scenes where traditional vehicles would be delayed by traffic obstruction or limited road access.

Against this backdrop, the role of specialised authority motorcycles has never been more critical. BMW Motorrad, one of the world’s most established partners to policing agencies, returned to Milipol Paris last month with a line-up demonstrating how its century-long expertise continues to evolve.

Unveiling the New R 1300 RT-P: a Flagship Designed for Mission Readiness

The star of BMW Motorrad’s booth at Milipol Paris 2025 was undeniably the brand-new BMW R 1300 RT-P, a machine purpose-built for the complex and demanding reality of daily police operations. Drawing on more than 100 years of authority-vehicle expertise and over 170,000 units delivered globally since 1970, the RT-P represents BMW’s most technologically advanced interpretation of a modern police motorcycle to date.

The new model combines power, ergonomics and safety in a refined, mission-oriented package. At its core is a high-performance BMW ShiftCam boxer engine delivering 145 hp and 149 Nm of torque, ensuring strong acceleration and dependable performance across motorway, urban and mixed-terrain deployments. However, the RT-P is not only about speed. It is a highly intelligent workstation. Its large 10.25-inch Full HD TFT display consolidates navigation, vehicle information and operational controls into a single cockpit interface, while newly developed switch units allow riders to programme mission-critical functions with ease.

The model’s signalling and protection systems are equally sophisticated. LED 360° beacons, a versatile stop-signal unit programmable in 10 languages and a speed-sensitive acoustic system all enhance rider visibility and public communication for policing contexts ranging from escorts to crisis response. Weather protection has been redesigned for improved resilience to rain, debris and spray water, reinforcing the motorcycle as an all-season operational platform.

Thanks to its broad choice of configurable equipment assembled on a dedicated production line for authority vehicles in Berlin, the R 1300 RT-P is a tailor-made tool, adaptable to the strategic needs of forces around the world. At Milipol, its presence signalled BMW Motorrad’s continued commitment to elevating safety and efficiency for frontline officers.

The GS-P Range: Versatility for Diverse Terrain and Tactical Scenarios

Alongside the RT-P, BMW Motorrad showcased models from its GS-P family: the F 800 GS-P, and the F 900 GS-P. These models embody BMW’s philosophy of combining off-road capability with authority-specific engineering.

The F 800 GS-P, presented in its latest iteration, is positioned as an agile, economical all-rounder. Its twin-cylinder engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds and delivers 87 hp with fuel consumption below five litres per 100 km. Designed for mixed-terrain deployments, it integrates a clearly organised 6.5" TFT display, heated grips, configurable LED signalling, and telescopic rotating beacons. Riders can select seat heights to maximise comfort and control, while waterproof Vario cases offer practical storage during extended patrols.

The larger and more powerful F 900 GS-P targets more complex off-road and long-distance assignments. With 105 hp and a robust chassis engineered for stability over uneven terrain, it is described as an “open-air workplace” capable of delivering high sprinting power and confident handling. Its ergonomics prioritise long-term comfort: customisable seat options, heated grips, and a logically designed switch layout support officer focus even in stressful or remote operations. Like the F 800 GS-P, it integrates a comprehensive signalling suite - 360° rotating LED beacons, LED displays with programmable stop commands, and high-intensity auxiliary headlights for low-visibility environments.

Together, these GS-P models demonstrate BMW’s strategic ambition to provide police forces with versatile tools that function seamlessly across urban, rural and tactical contexts.

Comprehensive Support and Tailored Authority Solutions

Alongside its motorcycles, BMW Motorrad also provides a range of professional rider equipment, including helmets, boots and gloves designed to complement operational demands with durability, comfort and consistent protection. These products form part of a wider, service-oriented approach in which the company focuses on offering individualised solutions.

With nearly 100 partners worldwide, BMW Motorrad works closely with public authorities to tailor configurations, refine technical features and incorporate user feedback directly into its development process. This cooperative philosophy reflects the company’s conviction that the most effective mobility solutions arise from sustained dialogue with the people who depend on them.

To further support agencies throughout the lifecycle of their fleet, BMW Motorrad Special Customers offers consulting on both rider and technical training. These programmes ensure that officers and mechanics are fully prepared to operate and maintain their machines safely and efficiently, particularly in demanding or unpredictable environments. By combining equipment, training and long-term cooperation, the ecosystem strengthens BMW Motorrad’s ability to incorporate user insights into future developments while providing agencies with a coherent and comprehensive service structure..

As BMW continues to expand its authority portfolio, this holistic approach remains central to its vision of future-ready mobility.
